Segregation of genders is never a solution, in fact I feel that it reinforces the 'purdah' culture. It's treating a symptom, not the disease. But I don't think that the average Indian male has the level of maturity to view a woman as his equal. I think the average Indian female accepts this fact way to easily. And as long as this problem exists separation of the genders will continue to provide a sense of security that most women feel they need.
